Le festival de GEEK se déroulera du 20-22 Février au Winter Gardens, de Margate.
Comme son nom l'indique c' est un festival de jeux, jeux d'ordinateur, et de réseau social. J' ai fait équipe avec GEEK pour envoyer une "capsule" dans l'espace proche sur le festival dans le cadre de l'un des jeux d'événements en marge.
Le jeu s' appelle «Recherche sociale» et c'est un jeu de construction de réseaux sociaux pour récupérer la "capsule" atmosphérique.
Le CAA vient de me donner l'autorisation de lancer une "capsule" attachée à un ballon météo qui va flotter jusqu'à 33 kilomètres au-dessus de la Terre et en dérive sur l'Europe.
Les participants pourront suivre la capsule sur les cartes en ligne que fournira GEEK et de construire un réseau social en utilisant Facebook et Twitter pour trouver une personne qui peut sortir et ramasser la charge utile quand elle atterrira quelque part en Europe.
Le gagnant sera l'équipe qui sera la première à retrouver le tracker GPS et l'appareil photo et retourner la charge utile à GEEK.
Il y aura neuf autres finalistes pour les prix.
Le jeu est libre, et gratuit, pour jouer il sera basé sur les personnes qui utilisent Twitter et Facebook pour construire un réseau social et de trouver quelqu'un à proximité du site d'atterrissage prêt à sortir pour récupérer la capsule.
Il n'est également pas limité aux personnes qui fréquentent GEEK mais peut être joué par n' importe qui, qui pourrait aller sur le site Web de GEEK ....
Ce sera "géant" pour les enfants plus âgés....
Nous allons utiliser un ballon de 1200gm, SPOT Tracker et une caméra vidéo KODAK.

The GEEK festival will be running from 20-22nd February at the Winter Gardens, Margate. As the name suggests it is a festival of gaming, computer gaming, and social networking. I have teamed up with GEEK to send a capsule into near space over the festival as part of one of the fringe event games.
The game is called 'Social Searching' and is a game of building social networks to recover the near space capsule. The CAA have just given me clearance to launch a capsule attached to a weather balloon which will float up to 33km above the Earth and drift over Europe. Participants will track the capsule in the online maps that GEEK will provide and build a social network using facebook and twitter to find a person who can pop out and pick up the payload when it lands somewhere in Europe. The winner will be the team who is first to return the GPS tracker and camera payload to GEEK. There are 9 other runners up prizes. The game is free to enter, and free to play... as will be based on people using Twitter and facebook to build a social network and find someone near the landing site prepared to go out and recover the capsule. It is also not restricted to people attending GEEK but can be played by anyone who can go onto the GEEK web site.... so great for older kids on half term.
We will be using a 1200gm balloon, SPOT tracker and KODAK video camera. Tracking for the SPOT is on the game page.

GEEK is a festival of computer gaming and play held in Margate each year.
This year it is on 20-22nd February. At my own cost, I've teamed up with
GEEK to create a game called 'Social Searching'. The game is like the
Czech Stratocaching but is much more low tech and smaller scale. We will be
launching the prize attached to the payload from the Winter Gardens in
Margate over the weekend festival weekend. The aim of the game is to build
a social network and find a person close to the landing site who is
prepared to go out and recover the payload. Tracking will be through the
location reports from a SPOT 1 tracker - as I said it is low tech. The
winning team will be the one to return the payload but there will also be 9
runner up prizes. Permission has already been granted for the launch with a
few limitations.
