ANNONCE BALLON UK SKYBLUE1 & RTLS1 le 25 juin 2016

All being well, a school team will be launching their balloon from here on Saturday about 11am.  As well as their tracker, I'm adding one of my trackers partly as a backup but mainly so I can test some new code.

The school's tracker (SKYBLUE1) is an NTX2 doing RTTY.

My tracker is RTLS1, using LoRa only.  The telemetry has quite a few sensor values plus a landing predictor and other stuff, so the sentence is quite long, but with the relatively high data rate the update speed is better than 1Hz.  The hardware is an original Pi Zero with a prototype PitsZero board plus BME280 (temperature/pressure/humidity) and LSM303 (3-axis compass/accelerometer).

Predicted burst is 35km and predicted landing is 15 miles or so west of here, so an easy chase if we can avoid the Welsh hills.

Just a quick note/reminder that it's not easy to track a flight if the published frequency is wrong.

Also, if you have a flight planned, please check the published frequencies for other flights on the same day so you can avoid a conflict.  Today's UK flights both had the same published frequency (434.250MHz) so presumably neither team checked the other one.  Fortunately (in this case) one of the two was wrong and was actually on 434.650MHz.

Oh, and while I have my soapbox out, do remember to actually test your payload documents (i.e. run your tracker, decode and upload and check you're on the map (and if not, have a look at http://habitat.habhub.org/logtail/ to find out why not).  A lot of the requests for approval of flight documents have not had their payload documents tested, and the #habhub admins very understandably get a bit uppity at being asked to approve them.

We're a group of Imperial College students, sending our first payload up with a 1600g Hwoyee balloon tomorrow (Sunday 18/06/2016). Unfortunately, our first launch try a few days ago, ended in vein as our supplier delivered the needed helium to the wrong address, twice (on two separate occasions). Thank you to all who were helping us listen and we’re sorry that our launch didn’t take place for such a disappointing reason. If you would be so kind as to help us track it again, we will be launching tomorrow from Churchill college in Cambridge at approximately 11:00 am. We would appreciate any help in tracking our payload, there'll be LORA 868 and 434, as well as RTTY 434 to listen to.

ANNONCE BALLON UK PICO F-2 le 15 juin 2016 from CANEWDON

Hi all,

I plan to try a launch tomorrow early evening ish between 17.00 / 19.00 .. Wednesday 15th.. Its a pico set up which is only battery powered but should last at least 48 hours. The transmitter will shut down after a short transmission which will be three times per hour, it should transmit dead on the hour and then 20 minutes past then 20 minutes too, there are no pips or tones between these transmissions but there maybe a short single tone of 15 seconds before it transmits 4 lines of data. If anyone does track and they have a time sync on their computer it would be nice to know how accurate the transmissions are..
