ARISS contact planned for school in Le Palais, France

An International Space Station radio contact has been planned for astronaut Thomas Pesquet KF5FYG with Collège Michel Lotte, Le Palais, France.

The event is scheduled Monday November 28  at  approximately 10:38 UTC, which is 11:38 CEWT.

This will be a telebridge radio contact, operated by  LU1CGB, located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

School information:

Belle-Ile-en-mer (Belle Isle) is a French island off the coast of Brittany in the department Morbihan, and the largest of Brittany's islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The island measures 17 km by 9 km, and the main port is Le Palais.

Michel LOTTE Junior High School is a small insular state school.
It’s thus isolated and in charge of training 160 pupils aged between 11 and 15 (6th grade to 9th grade), all living on the island.

Private Salesian High School named of St. Dominic Savio

The Private Salesian High School is the secondary school providing general education that is led by the Salesian Community. The school was established in 1998. They stimulate students to apply knowledge to life, to embrace it wholeheartedly, to face reality with integrity, fortitude and optimism, and to serve society dedicatedly. The school focuses their attention on relationships between students and teachers, and parents and teachers.

The school offers opportunities for students’ involvement in activities which take place after school, at weekends and at holiday time. The school leads international exchange of students with Germany and Spain. Apart from achieving good academic results, the school provides a very wide range of cultural, sporting, physical, biological, geographical, social and extra-curricular activities for students from other schools and the local area. The school has the title of the Local Center for Environmental Activity, and it was awarded as an international Green Flag certificate in Poland - so, its role is to attract the attention of society to ecological problems, and to raise environmental awareness in the public. The "Perspektywy" magazine has placed this high school in the group of the best catholic schools in Lower Silesia. They took the 9th place in the ranking of high schools in Wroclaw in 2016, conducted by the Polish newspaper named "Wyborcza". The school has experience in conducting and coordinating environmental projects, and it has carried out so far four Comenius and Erasmus+ projects, and it was also a partner in a Youth Exchange project about global warming.

During the preparation to the ARISS school contact, students attended an amateur radio course prepared by SP6PWR – a local Polish Amateur Radio Union club (DOT-01 PZK), in cooperation with members from other amateur radio local clubs: SP6ZWR, SP6PSR and SP6PWS. Wlodek SQ6NLN, Piotr SQ6VY and Waldemar 3Z6AEF prepared lectures and workshops on amateur radio classes at school. Teachers of different subjects gave many lessons based on materials the NASA and ESA, associated with the subject matter of the project. School invited a few astronomers, who gave very interesting lectures. Students created models of spaceships, capsules of mankind and science fiction literature. They took part in the 6th Polish-wide Conference of Contributors and Sympathizers of the ARISS programme in Ostrów Wielkopolski. Students and teachers were invited to the Wroclaw Opera to the "Chopin: The Space Concert". During this event, within the World Space Week 2016, a special guest – an astronaut George D. Zamka gave them an award for promoting astronautics and astronomy amongst young inhabitants of Wroclaw. In cooperation with the Wroclaw University, they organised workshops in the astronomical observatory in Bialków, and various activities were undertaken there: observation of the sky, astronomical lectures and exercised astrophysical experience such as building a rocket and a spectroscope. Eventually, a few new amateur radio licensed operators (so-called HAMs) should become active on amateur radio bands in the near future.

School information:

In 2016, Col·legi Asuncion de Ntra. Sra. is celebrating the 140th anniversary of the 1876 founding of the school.

The school has approximately 600 students of Kindergarden (from 3 to 6 years of age), Primary (6-12 years old) and Secondary (from 12 to 16 years old) and is located in Barcelona, in the Poblenou neighbourhood, belonging to Sant Martí district.

It would be very rewarding for all of us to finish the anniversary contacting the International Space Station as the main activity of a set of Interdisciplinary Didactic Projects and multiple age level participation activities.

Our aim is to engage every student in these activities, which are not only STEM/STEAM related, but also cover geography, languages, history and others.

Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows:

1. Since you are at zero gravity, do you get the feeling of being upright or upside down?

2. How do you cope with the anxiety caused by being in such a small room where you can barely move?

3. What surprised you the most the very first time you reached the space station? Does it have a certain smell (like hospitals do)?

5. To compensate for bone and muscle loss caused by weightlessness, do you take any dietary supplement to complement the physical exercise?

6. Would you be willing to travel to Mars? When do you think it will be possible?

7. Have you experienced any dangerous situation during the spacewalks, for example a space debris impact?

8. What differences have you come across between 3D printing on Earth and in the station?

9. How do you think schools in the future should be so students can meet the challenges of your research?

10. Do you have control over the station or is it controlled from earth? What about in case of an emergency?

11. How long can you be outside the station during EVAs (extravehicular activities)?

12. What is your opinion on the tourist space voyages? Do you think it will be soon avaible for everyone?

I've got permission for some launches this weekend, and I'm hoping to fly a lightweight 868 LoRa tracker with Pi camera, possibly first thing tomorrow morning, possibly Sunday evening for the sunset, or possibly both.

Compared to previous 868 LoRa flights the data rate will be doubled, so there should be plenty of large images.  Settings for my LoRa gateway are (for channel 0 - change _0 to _1 for channel 1):

frequency_0=869.850
mode_0=4

No need for AFC with this bandwidth, so leave that turned off.

For other receiving software, use these settings:

Launch site is near Ross On Wye, and general heading is SSE throughout the weekend.

J'ai la permission pour quelques lancements ce week-end, et j'espère faire voler un Tracker LoRa léger 868 avec une caméra Pi, peut-être la première chose demain matin, ou peut-être le dimanche soir pour le coucher du soleil, ou peut-être les deux.
Par rapport aux précédents vols 868 Lora le débit de données sera doublé, donc il devrait y avoir beaucoup de grandes images.
Les réglages pour ma passerelle LoRa sont (pour le canal 0 - changement _0 à _1 pour le canal 1):frequency_0 = 869,850mode_0 = 4.
Pas besoin d'AFC avec cette bande passante, donc laisser cela éteint.

An International Space Station radio contact has been planned for astronaut Shane Kimbrough KE5HOD with Istituto Comprensivo “Marco da Melo”, Mel, Italy. The event is scheduled Friday November 4 2016 at  approximately 08:47 UTC.
This will be a direct radio contact, operated by IQ3FL.
The downlink signal will be audible in parts of Europe on 145.800 MHz narrowband FM.

Presentation:

Our school is a state school and is meant for students aged 6 to 14 years old. It has about 250 students. Its name "Marco da Melo" comes from a historic character (a painter) of the 16th century. The school is situated in a wide valley, Val Belluna (the valley of Belluno). All the subjects included in the national regulations for this age bracket are taught: Italian, History, Geography, Science, Math, foreign languages, Art, Music and IT. Some technological workshops have been started up for three years and only for the students of the last school year with the help of the radio amateurs of the local section of Feltre. Themes related to telecommunication are dealt with and experiments of electrophysics are carried out as well as CW tests. Footage and slides related to the world of the radio are shown.

La Royal Meteorological Society invitent 11 à 16 étudiants

Ceci concerne les étudiants anglais, je vous livre cette information, qui pourrait intéresser les centres météo, à organiser, ce genre de possibilité pour les étudiants en France. 

The Royal Meteorological Society are inviting 11-16 students to design and build a science experiment to be carried through the atmosphere by a weather balloon.

Themes could include Earth observation, the atmosphere, Natural forces, cold temperatures, pressure or UV. Students could use a Raspberry Pi, or similar, to design and build their own tracker and/ or sensor package.
All entries must be submitted to the Head of Education at the Royal Meteorological Society by 17th February 2017.
The entry judged best by a panel of judges will be invited to build and launch their experiment.

Les ballons TRANSATLANTIQUES arrivent sur la France

Nous sommes le dimanche 16 octobre 2016 et que voyons nous sur le site tracker.habhub.org ?
Une grosse activité sur les iles britanniques (UK) comme souvent, avec une activité induite sur la Hollande. L'activité française se résume à un groupe situé en bordure de la Manche et de la Mer du Nord et quelques apparitions sporadiques par ci par là sur l' hexagone.

Du côté de l' Est, c'est toujours une pleine activité avec l' Allemagne, la Pologne, et quelques pays qui sont actifs mais qui lâchent des ballons par période. Et nous voyons aussi l' Italie, et parfois l'Espagne. Même la Suisse lâche des ballons avec de gros projets spectaculaires, même l' Ukraine .

Une question nous vient immédiatement : que faisons nous en France ?

Depuis 1995-1996, dans le Nord de la France, nous avons une activité régulière, il y a aussi le groupe Boufigo dans le département 13 qui procéde à un ou deux vols par an. Mais ils ne sont pas visibles sur le site tracker.habhub.org (pas encore?).

Pourtant il y a quelques vols de radioamateurs isolés ou des étudiants en France, ils me contactent et l'aide se fait à distance pour que tout se passe bien. Il est indispensable de déclarer à l' aviation civile ce genre d'expérience et de respecter le cahier des charges ballon léger. Vous pouvez demander quels sont les conditions requises auprès du centre DGAC le plus proche de votre point de lâcher.

Vous pouvez aussi compter sur moi, avec mes nombreux sites et blogs, dédiés aux ballons amateurs de la catégorie "ballons légers", pour avoir des conseils pertinents.
N'oubliez pas non plus, de vous rapprocher de l'association BHAF :  "Ballons Haute Altitude France" qui connait bien ces activités avec une expérience de 20 années de pratique.
En adhérent à cette modeste association*, vous contribuerez au développement des projets en France et vous voyez encore aujourd'hui, que nous brillons par notre absence sur la carte européenne.
Pour l'instant c'est gratuit !
Une réglementation européenne vient de paraître : SERA, elle n'a pas été géré par nous même, comme association  d'utilisateurs et il reste à espérer que les autres pays voisins et leurs associations ont contribué à garantir encore un espace expérimental amateur dans un domaine, on va dire préparatoire au spatial et à l' aviation.

Comme disent les américains sur leur site (ARHAB) nos ballons amateurs sont les satellites du pauvre. C'est vrai que nos projets avec les écoles, les jeunes ne coûtent pas un bras !

Un budget de 335 millions vient d'être voté dans la région "Hauts de France" pour un retour aux projets éducatifs dans les lycées et la création de FAB LABS.

Alors réveillons-nous, c'est vital pour assurer l'avenir de nos activités éducatives et scientifiques qui sont à la base de notre licence d'amateur. Amateur de radio, de satellites et de ballons amateurs!
Satellites et ballons = activités spatiales.
Les ballons américains arrivent sur nos pays, sachons les capter, les faire figurer sur le réseau mondial à l'aide de FL-DIGI par exemple (cochez ONLINE). Sachons les trouver par des chasses aux ballons, si par hasard ils chutent à côté de chez nous ?  Je ne parle pas d'en lancer nous même, car le niveau technique n'est pas encore suffisant pour y arriver efficacement.  (altitude constante).
